Paudie Holly

European Representative on the WSCF Executive Committee

My name is Paudie Holly and I am a PhD candidate in the School of Ecumenics, Trinity College Dublin. I am originally from the west of Ireland, but I currently live in Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland. I joined the Student Christian Movement (SCM) in 2019, and I was very happy to be elected to the European Regional Assembly as an European Representative on the WSCF Executive Committee. I am also a Board Member of the Irish Theological Association, and I was formerly on the Board of the Glenstal Ecumenical Conference, the largest ecumenical gathering in Ireland at that time. Through my participation in WSCF-Europe, I hope to aid the SCM in Ireland to grow and be a good example for our future members. My further aim is to examine the idea that the growing sense of spiritual homelessness is the root cause of many of Europe’s issues. I am a practicing Roman Catholic, though I am sensitive to the growing distance between lay Catholics everywhere and the Church hierarchy. I believe that matters of gender and sexual orientation will continue to exacerbate this growing distance until the Magisterium (the teaching body of the Church) embraces radical change.”
