Clare Okura McCay

Mozaik Illustrator

Clare Okura McCay is a 23 year old Irish-Japanese illustrator, she was born in Japan, and moved to Donegal, Ireland where her father is from when she was 13. Clare is currently in her final year of studying visual communications in Dublin Institute of Technology, where she has developed not only her illustrative skills, but also in typography, photography, web design and other digital media. Clare has some experience in illustration, and has created some original picture books in the past.

The medium of illustration she uses is mostly water colours mixed with digital art. This mixture of classic and modern art mediums gives her art a unique style and feel. Her style has been influenced heavily by her Japanese roots, and her style shows many similarities with various Japanese artists, many of which she grew up enjoying. Clare has strong beliefs in connection with equal rights, anti-discrimination and being inclusive. She seeks to express these ideals in her illustrations. Clare hopes that through art, she can start discussion about these issues and hopefully bring about some form of change and progress, which will lead to a more equal, welcoming and understanding future.
