Third African University on Youth Development: Day Six

January 12th, 2012 11:43 am

Friday is the last day of the official program. We’ve started with the debriefing the previous activities, mainly the ‘Volunteering Citizenship and Social Action DAY’. Marcus Andrade from the North-South Centre has underlined the importance of leaving ‘the safe space’ and mingling with the local people. Than we divided into 4 groups to share our ideas. The main concern was the sensitivity to the local context while visiting the sites. Some of us felt as if we were touching the reality in a very limited way or even invaded it.

However, there were numerous gains as well: firsthand experiencing, possibility to mingle with the people, getting to know the participants outside the format of the AUYD. The early afternoon was dedicated for the development of the projects we’ve been working during the week. Our group decided to scale down the idea of the Youth COP to the on-line communities aiming at raising awareness and youth participation as well as capacity in the area of the climate change / environmental protection. The organizers provided insightful information on the implementation of the projects for example by the Joint Management Agreement between North-South Center and the Council of Europe. Apart from that, the importance of the Capacity Building for Youth Organisations in Africa Europe Apart from that, the importance of the Capacity Building for Youth Organisations in Africa Europe Youth Cooperation.

Towards the evening we’ve been evaluating the meeting both in creative and formal way in order to find the strongest part and those that could be improved. During the closing ceremony held in the presence of the local authorities and the Minister of Employment, Youth and Human Resources Ms Janira Hopffer Almada the speakers has once more underlined the importance of the follow-ups of the conference.
